Boo at the Zoo will feature two new stations in 2011 – a farm and enchanted forest station. Also new this year, people will be able to enjoy a scavenger hunt for the 12 treat stations, rather than the traditional one way path of trick-or-treating around the zoo. Also at Boo at the Zoo will be pumpkin carver, Don Witt, and his creative pumpkin designs and new this year will be an indoor pumpkin patch in Komodo Kingdom. The carousel and train will also be open for people to ride during the event.
Pre-sale tickets are now on sale at the Akron Zoo and all Acme Fresh Market locations in Northeast Ohio for a discounted rate. People can save $1 per ticket when they buy tickets before the day they are attending. Admission to the event is $10 for trick-or-treaters and $6 for observers. Akron Zoo members receive free observer admission. Boo at the Akron Zoo is presented by Acme Fresh Markets.
The Zoo will be serving an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet in their Komodo Kingdom Café during Boo. In addition to freshly made pizzas, the buffet will include dessert pizza, too. The buffet is $4.99 for kids and $6.99 for adults.
The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for senior citizens, $6 for children (ages 2-14). Children under two are free and parking is $2.00. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call (330) 375-2550.

CORN RECIPES and Apple RECIPES (as submitted by our followers)

Arepas Recipe
by Kristian Campana

1 cup milk
5 tablespoons butter
1 cup freshly boiled corn on the cob (2 cobs)
1 1/4 finely ground yellow corn meal
1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Mozzarella or Provolone (sliced)After boiling 2 cobs, use knife to cut corn off and then grind in blender. You should have a nice pulp. Then add yellow cornmeal (pass through coffee grinder to make finer if necessary), flour, sugar, salt and shredded mozzarella and mix well.Bring milk to a boil as you add the butter (be careful not to burn milk).Make a well of the mixture in the bowl and gradually add the hot milk mixture while mixing.Get to a good pancake batter consistency. If you end up not needing to add the rest of the milk, so be it. If it's too thick, then add more milk.Heat a lightly buttered griddle or pan and spoon batter to make small pancakes. Flip when golden brown.you can add the cheese once it flips and then add the second pancake when done. Or you can just cook them all, make sandwiches with the cheese and nuke them in the microwave to melt the cheese.

Recipe from our friends at the  Inn at Rocky Hill:

Apple Dumplings

2 1/2 c flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 shortening
1/2 cup milk
5 to 6 Granny Smith or other cooking apples that have been cored, peeled & sliced
1/2 c sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
butter, cut into pieces

Syrup:
2 c sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 c hot water
1/4 c margarine melted
Ice cream, optional

Combine flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually add milk, stirring to make a soft dough. Roll dough into a 1/8" thick rectangle on a lightly floured surface; cut into 5-inch squares.

Place 3 or 4 pieces of apple on each square. Sprinkle each with 2 teaspoons sugar and a sprinkling cinnamon and nutmeg to taste; dot with butter. Moisten edges of each dumpling with water; bring corners to center, pinching edges to seal. Place dumplings 1 inch apart in a lightly greased shallow baking dish. Combine 2 cups sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 2 cups hot water and 1/4 cup butter or margarine; stir to dissolve sugar. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake at 375° for 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot with cream or ice cream.
Makes about 1 dozen apple dumplings.
