Explore Ohio Kayak Tours: Chagrin River
Saturday, April 21 * 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Pre-Trip Meeting: Tuesday, April 10 * 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Garfield Park Nature Center
Join staff to paddle a section of the Chagrin River. After a short introduction to kayak basics, participants will be ready to explore the waterway, including sections designated as a State Scenic River. Varying river levels and conditions will determine the sections paddled. Previous kayak paddling experience is required as well as appropriate cold water paddling clothing. This trip is dependent on sufficient rainfall during the spring months. Adults only. There is a $35 fee (equipment included).

Celebrating its 18th season, Cleveland Metroparks Voyageur Canoe Paddles take to the water once again to immerse participants in and to the life of an old-time Voyageur.
The Voyageur Canoe Paddles are typically on Saturdays and Sundays and consist of a one-hour living history programs taking paddlers on a trip back to the Fur Trade Era. While paddling the canoes, participants can sing along to the French Canadian paddle songs and sample the food of the time.
The Paddle provides the opportunity for individuals, friends and families to learn about the Great Lakes Fur Trade Era in a unique and active way.
The 34-foot Voyageur Canoe is a fiberglass replica of the original voyageur canoes, which were used to travel the Great Lakes from Montreal to Lake Superior and the eastern shores of Minnesota in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Each participant paddles the large, 18-seater canoe on either Hinckley Lake or Wallace Lake.
The 2012 schedule for the ever-popular Voyageur Canoe Paddles is:

Shove off times for paddles on Saturdays and Sundays are 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. OR 3:30 p.m.
*Full moon rides are at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Registration and a $5 fee per person are required. Space is limited.
Life jackets, educational fun and a safe environment are provided for all paddles.
Hinckley Lake is located between West Drive and East Drive in Hinckley Reservation, south of Bellus Road in HinckleyTownship.
Wallace Lake is located off Valley Parkway in Mill Stream Run Reservation, south of Bagley Road in Berea.

American Canoe Association Level I: Introduction to Canoe & Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop
Thursday through Saturday, June 14 - 16 * 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Hinckley Lake * Hinckley Reservation
This workshop follows standards established by the ACA. Designed for individuals and programmers interested in offering certified canoe and kayak classes. Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants can receive instructor certification through the ACA.
Pre-requisite: Previous paddling experience is required. Completion of ACA Intro To Canoe/Kayak course preferred. For certification, all participants must be members of the ACA & SEIC prior to the program. To become a member, visit www.americancaone.org.. There is a $225 fee per person (includes equipment, books, and lunch the first 2 days). |
