Artistic Luxury: Fabergé, Tiffany, Lalique

Sunday, October 19, 2008 - Sunday, January 18, 2009
Just over 100 years ago, three of history's greatest designers, Peter Carl Fabergé in Russia, Louis Comfort Tiffany in the United States, and René Lalique in France, were engaged in a spirited rivalry that drove each to attain unsurpassed heights in the creation of jewelry and luxury goods. In this opulent exhibition, see their greatest masterworks reunited for the first time since the legendary 1900 world's fair in Paris.

Artistic Luxury offers a glimpse-through the stunning creations of these three great artists-into the world of the rich and famous during the years leading up to the First World War. Each designer was known for his own characteristic style and achievement, and the exhibition devotes a separate gallery to each jeweler, recreating the ambiance of the Paris world's fair.

DRURY THEATRE

As each member of the Younger family envisions their own unique path to the American Dream, their choices threaten to tear the family asunder.  The events that have unfolded since this brilliant play was written in 1959 have only made its story of determination, dignity, and redemption in the face of segregation more powerful.

Art of the Nativity in the Manor House
November 8 – December 28 (closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas)

This special exhibit explores cultural traditions and the art form of this popular Christmas symbol. Most of the nativity scenes are on loan from the Marian Library of The University of Dayton. Art of the Nativity features nativity scenes in many artistic styles and made from a variety of materials, including fabric, balata rubber, tile, straw, hardened bread dough, clay, olive wood, rosewood, and thorn wood. The Marian Library of the University of Dayton owns one of the most extensive collections of nativities in the world.

From Fr. Johan Roten, SM, Director at the International Marian Research Institute/ Marian Library, University of Dayton:
“Re-creating the scene of Christ's birth is one of the most tender and enduring Christmas traditions. Making representations of the Nativity is a universally popular art form which has flourished in Europe since the sixteenth century. In every language, it is known for its focal point, the crib of the Infant Jesus: creche in France, Krippe in Germany, presepio in Italy, Belem in Portugal, presebre in Spain, and nacimiento in Latin America.”

Palace Theatre
It's here, and it's "AN ELLE OF A SHOW" (TIME Magazine). The hilarious MGM film is Broadway's new smash hit musical, and now Legally Blonde The Musical is coming to you. Legally Blonde follows sorority star Elle Woods, an underestimated blonde who doesn't take "no" for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone more "serious," Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. After turning Broadway and MTV hot pink, this “Feel-Good Song and Dance Juggernaut” (New York Magazine) is “The Best New Musical Around!” (WOR)
