The third annual Log Cabin Days
will be held Friday September 17 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday,
September 18, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Hochstetler Milling near Loudonville
Ohio. Last year, this fun-filled event attracted over 1,800 visitors
from 20 states. Even bigger and better this year, events will include a
lumberjack competition, chainsaw carving, craft auctions, seminars and
booth displays, a mill and log home tour and good old-fashioned Amish
cooking. In 2009, as a result of the large turnout, we were able to
contribute over $2,000 to the American Cancer Society.
The highlight of Log Cabin Days is the self-guided auto tour, which
gives you the rare opportunity to see the inside of several log homes,
talk to their owners, and see what makes the log home lifestyle so
relaxing and rewarding. There is a small donation for the tour, $10 per
couple or $15 per vehicle, with proceeds going to the American Cancer
Society.
Free events feature a Lumberjack show which includes axe-throwing, 2-man
crosscut sawing and wood chopping; hand-peeling and hand-hewing
demonstrations; chainsaw carving; educational seminar and booth displays
pertaining to log homes; a log cabin raising; plus, a model, mill and
kiln tour. And, be sure to sign up for a free bundle of white pine
seedlings and register to win a free chainsaw carving.
For the kids we have buggy rides on Saturday and an educationsl forestry
tour both days at 3:00 pm. A surprise visitors, "Johnny Appleseed," will
interrupt his travel to be here both days from1:00 to 4:00 pm. He loves
to talk to kids about his adventures and find out about yours.
Log Cabin Days is at Hochstetler Milling, 5 miles north of Loudonville,
Ohio, ½ mile east of SR 60 at 553 SR 95. Free Admission ! For

Wings
presented
by Beck Center for the Arts
Beck
welcomes back Cleveland theater legend Dorothy Silver in a role that
inspires and crackles. American playwright Arthur Kopit does the
unimaginable: taking us inside the brain of former aviatrix Emily Stillson
as she experiences and recovers from a potentially life-shattering stroke.
Wings is a brilliant tour-de-theatre that manages to both illuminate
and share a touching empathy with the audience. It’s a truly uplifting
journey that speaks to the strength of the human mind and body.

The holiday tradition continues at Hale Farm & Village with the annual
Lantern Tours. This 90-minute, lantern-lit journey is the best way to see,
hear and smell the holidays as experienced in the 19th-century. Visitors
embark on an evening stroll through the village where it is Christmas Eve,
1864. Here they enter the homes clustered around the village green to gain
insight into holiday celebrations from a variety of village residents,
drawing on their varying heritage and family traditions to celebrate the
Christmas holiday despite the country’s Civil War plight.
Lantern Tours depart every 20 minutes beginning at
6:00 pm (last tour at 8:20pm). Every effort is made to present the Lantern
Tours as described; however, the tours are subject to change without prior
notice. Lantern Tours are an indoor/outdoor activity. Guests are asked to
dress for the weather. Reservations are required. For ticket availability
and reservations call 330-666-3711. Admission is: $15 for WRHS Members, $18

The
Underpants
presented by Beck Center for the Arts
Steve
Martin’s The Underpants. Matthew Earnest returns after a
triumphant turn directing last season’s Is He Dead? Described by
The New York Times
as “laugh-out-loud funny,”
The Underpants
is about a puritanical bureaucrat and his wife Louise, who becomes an
instant celebrity when her underpants accidentally fall down in public.
Steve Martin uses saucy jokes, witty wordplay, slamming doors, and
sophisticated literary style to lampoon our contemporary culture’s
fascination with fame.
