The Akron Zoo
will be offering 25 different ZooCamps for kids ages 2-16 in
2011. ZooCamps start in early June and run through August
and are either one-day, three-day or five-day sessions. New this
year, for kids ages 7-12, is Zooviver, a full day camp which
focuses on survival challenges that animals face in the wild.
Registration is required and space is limited. Children will
learn about the zoo's animals and their environments,
conservation programs and what it is like to work at the Zoo.
Early childhood camps for kids ages 2-5 include a tour of the
zoo, t-shirt, animal encounter, snack, take home craft, circle
time with stories, music and games. A caregiver must accompany
kids attending the early childhood camps. They can choose from
five different camps including Furry Friends, Rockin’ Reptiles,
Beach Party, Let’s Eat or Z is for Zookeeper. ZooCamp for kids
ages 5-16 includes a tour of the Zoo with a ZooCamp coordinator,
an up-close experience with animals, t-shirt, photo, snack,
souvenir, take-home craft and much more. Kids in this age group
have several themes to choose from and their camps last either
three or five days.
Each session is limited to 15 campers and pre-paid reservations
must be made in advance. Early childhood camps are $30 per child
for Akron Zoo Members and $35 per child for non-members. The
cost for a three-day camp is $65 for Akron Zoo Members and $70
for non-members. Five-day camps are $95 for Akron Zoo Members
and $100 for non-members. The Junior Zoo Keeper program for 15 &
16 year olds is $115 for Akron Zoo Members and $135 for
non-members. The full day camp that is available for 7-12 year
olds is $150 per child for Akron Zoo members and $170 for
non-members.
The
Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Winter hours are 11 a.m. – 4
p.m. and admission is $6.00 per person. Children under two are

Develop your performing arts skills in acting, voice, movement
and stage combat with the Magical Theatre Company. Campers will
learn and perform scenes from classic plays and films that

and drama in the forests and fields of the national park.

Akron Symphony
Summer Music Camp
The Akron Symphony in partnership with the Cuyahoga Valley
Environmental Education Center will hold its first annual Summer
Music Camp for middle and high school age musicians July 17-22.
The camp will offer young musicians the opportunity to continue
their musical development through an intense, yet fun, week-long
experience. Professional musicians, experienced camping staff,
and trained counselors will spend the week with campers as they
move through a variety of musical, recreational and educational
activities designed to explore various musical styles, further
develop and hone musical skills, and meet and make new friends
while enjoying the surroundings of the Cuyahoga Valley National
Park.
Camp music faculty is comprised of professional musicians from
the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Akron area,
including Maestro Eric Benjamin, Camp Music Director, and Akron
Symphony violinist Cory Smith, Camp Director.
The Akron Symphonys Summer Music Camp is ideal for area middle
and high school musicians, students of private instructors, and
musicians active in their school or community ensembles.
Daily routines will include large and small group rehearsals;
exciting workshops; individual practice time; recreational and
environmental educational activities, including hiking,
swimming, and team games; and fun evening activities and special
events.
Interested campers are required to have prior musical experience
as indicated by a letter of reference from a private instructor
or ensemble director.
Camp fees are $650 for a residential camper and $550 for day
campers. Scholarships are limited and requests must include a
5-minute audition audio recording with one major scale, one
minor scale and the selection of your choice. To receive a

Junior Ranger
Day Camp- Leave No Child Inside
At Junior Ranger Day Camp in Cuyahoga Valley National Park,
everyday is a new and exciting adventure. This unique program
gives campers the opportunity to explore, interact with rangers,
and make new friends. Campers will spend their days outside
exploring forests, streams, meadows, and trails. At the end of
the week they will have completed the requirements needed to
become Junior Rangers and will receive their badges in a
ceremony for friends and family. Happy Days Lodge is home base
for our day camps.
Day Camp Sessions for the 2011 season are
July 18 - 22 and July 25 - 29.
Camps are designed for children ages 6 - 11 and run from 9:00 am
- 3:00 pm. Before and after care is available for week of July
25 - 29. Badge ceremony is on Friday of each camp week at 3:00
p.m.
