  AKRON ZOO
Zoo Camp is a great way for children (ages 6 - 16 years old) to learn about zoo animals, animal behaviors and wildlife in general. Each program includes a tour of the zoo, a chance to meet zoo staff and animal keepers, education animal encounters, a t-shirt, a keep-sake photo, a zoo souvenir, a daily snack and a take-home craft.

French Immersion Camp

Want to study aboard but don't have the money? Try The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department's French Immersion Camp. This day camp is Monday, June 14-Friday, June 18, 10:00 am-4:00 pm at the Massillon Recreation Center. Children ages 8-16 will learn about French culture and how to speak the language through classroom instruction, activities, movies and games. Students will also prepare and enjoy traditional French dishes. This special class is taught in French and is perfect for beginner and intermediate students. By the end of the class, students will be able to express themselves and carry on conversations in French. Cost for the camp is $100 for Massillon Recreation Center members, $110 for Massillon taxpayers, and $140 for non-taxpayers. An additional $20 supply fee must be paid to the instructor at the first class. Please register by June 10.

Jump Start Sports Summer Day Camps at the Massillon Recreation Center

Boys and Girls entering grades 2-6 can spend their summer learning sports skills, having fun and making new friends at our Jump Start Sports Summer Day Camps. Camps take place weekly throughout the summer at the Massillon Recreation Center. Camp is from 9 am-3 pm daily with before and after care and half day options available. Each week, camp will focus on a different sport. Coaches and counselors with expertise in the featured sport will lead activities designed specifically for each age group. Each day will begin with all camp activities, such as Capture the Flag, Red Rover and scavenger hunts. In the afternoon, campers can choose from electives like lacrosse, swimming or tennis. Cost is $125 for one week, $115 per week for any three weeks and $105 per week for four or more weeks. Those who register online at www.jumpstartsports.com will receive a $10 per week discount. To take advantage of the multiple week discounts, you must register for all camps at once.

Cavs Summer Basketball Camp at the Massillon Recreation Center

Want to be the next LeBron James? Anything is possible when you attend the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball camp! The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Cavs Summer Basketball Day Camp Monday, June 21-Friday, June 25, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the Massillon Recreation Center. This basketball skills camp for boys and girls ages 7-17 is presented by The National Basketball Academy. Each day will be packed full of skills, drills and instruction from trainers who have played and coached at all levels. Cost is $245 per camper. To register, visit www.thebasketballacademy.com.

PlayhouseSquare’s annual Broadway Summer Camp

For teens (14-19) is perfect for students who take acting, dance or singing lessons; participate in school or community stage productions; and/or dream of going on to perform in college or even professionally.  This year’s camp is being offered with The Phantom of the Opera on August 2-6, 2010, and will feature opportunities to interact with the cast and attend the show.  The camp focuses on the triple threat of musical theater – acting, dancing and singing.  Students leave the camp with a professional headshot and resume.
